Briefs - Alamo - religious objection

About this Image

Title Briefs - Alamo - religious objection
Date 6/9/1909
Item Type Newspaper (article)
Publication Charlotte Daily Observer
Description "Several ministers of the city requested Mr. Don Richardson not to appear last night at the Alamo theatre on West-Trade street, attired as a chorister boy, rendering on his violin "Nearer My God To Thee." The performance, it was feared by the ministers, would not look well in a vaudeville house, so Mr. Richardson acceded to their request temporarily until the objection is withdrawn."
Notes The identity of Mr. Don Richardson is ambiguous. He may be the proprietor (as possibly indicated in the June 7th Charlotte Observer) or he may simply be a performer.
