Description Article on opening of Elizabeth City's first theater, the Alkrama. Over 900 in attendance at opening night. It is expected that a special train will be run from Edenton and Hertford to bring films to Elizabeth City. The scan of the bottom of the article, which is obscured, reads: After Mr. Turner's speech, "Mr. Leigh followed, speaking the same light but adding the idea that home enterprise had erected and equipped this building, since everything, excepting the architect's plan - the heating, plumbing, the electric lighting and the scenery painting - had been done by Elizabeth City contractors. Mr. Leigh also stressed the idea that under the management of the gentlemen who have had this theatre built only entertainment of the highest class will be presented to the public - and the management pledges nothing shall appear in the Alkrama that could offend the most refined."
